Toyota CPO vs. Used
Purchasing a pre-owned vehicle from a new and used car dealership is an easy way to get a reliable and affordable vehicle without the uncertainty, stress, or confusing DMV paperwork that comes along with buying from a private seller. But you may have noticed that our Toyota dealership sells two kinds of used models: pre-owned cars, trucks, and SUVs from a variety of manufacturers, and certified pre-owned Toyota models. So what’s the difference between the two? We will go over that here.
What is the Toyota CPO Program?
When a pre-owned Toyota vehicle is within six model years of current and has less than 85,000 miles on the odometer, it may be entered into the Toyota Certified Pre-Owned program. There, it undergoes a strict 160-point inspection, or 174-points if it’s a hybrid.
This inspection is to ensure:
- All mechanical parts are performing properly
- All electronics are in full working order
- Paint and glass are free of chips and scratches
- Frame and body panels are undamaged and properly aligned
- All four tires are the same brand, model, and size, with safe tread depth
- Engine oil and filter are changed
- Interior is clean and free of stains and tears
Toyota CPO Advantages Vs. Pre-Owned Vehicles
Their assurance of high quality isn’t the only way that drivers can benefit from buying a CPO Toyota car, truck, or SUV. CPO models are more similar to new Toyotas than they are ordinary pre-owned models.
Because most CPO models are newer, they often retain part of their original warranty, including the 7-year/100,000 miles limited powertrain warranty. CPO models come with their own 12-month/12,000 mile comprehensive warranty on top of that, which is also transferrable if you choose to sell your CPO model. Though we stand by the incredible reliability of all Toyota models, even those that weren’t entered into the CPO program, we can only offer warranties with certified pre-owned models.
The most significant advantage that certified pre-owned models have over other pre-owned models is that certified customers are eligible for standard new-car financing and lease terms.
